Pure shaded Rajputi poshak in natural crepe with zari work, sold with a matching pure odhni and offered in several colour shades. Each set fades from one colour into the next across the kurti, kanchli and lehenga, so the whole poshak reads as one soft gradient rather than separate blocks of colour.

• Pista Green to Pink: the lehenga starts pista green at the waist, softens to peach and white in the middle, and deepens to pink at the hem. The kanchli is pink with green sleeves, and the odhni carries the same pink and green shading.

How the work looks

• Zari is worked as thin leaf vines (bel) that run along the kanchli neckline, the sleeves and the odhni border.
• Six-petal zari flowers are spread over the lehenga and kanchli, each with a small coloured stone at the centre in green, blue, red or orange.
• The lehenga hem carries a wider zari vine border finished with a thin gold edge, so the work frames the deepest part of the shading.
• A gold fringe runs along the odhni edge and falls down the front of the lehenga when the odhni is draped.
• The zari is spaced out rather than packed edge to edge, so the shaded colour of the crepe stays visible between the motifs.

About natural crepe

• Natural crepe has a soft, slightly grainy surface and a fluid fall, which lets the lehenga flare and move when you walk.
• It takes dye shading smoothly, which is why the colour change from top to hem looks gradual rather than striped.

How to wear it

• Drape the odhni over the head and tuck one end at the waist so the fringe falls down the front, as shown in the photos.
• Keep jewellery gold-toned to match the zari: a borla, a rani haar or aad, bajuband on the upper arm and bangles all sit well with this set.
• Because the shading already carries two colours, solid gold or kundan jewellery looks cleaner than multi-coloured meenakari.
• Suited to weddings, family functions and festivals such as Teej, Gangaur and Karwa Chauth.

Care

• dry clean only 
• Store folded in a muslin or cotton cloth so the zari and stones do not rub against other clothes.
• Iron on the reverse side on low heat; do not iron directly over zari or stones.
• Keep the odhni fringe untangled by folding the odhni with the fringe on the inside.
